Nikkei Suggests a Smooth Lead to the Japan-EU EPA Agreement

Nikkei Shimbun published an editorial on Sunday, 15 January, to suggest Japan and the EU to make up their minds to agree on EPA upon resuming the negotiation this month. The parties aimed to reach an agreement in principle in 2016 but failed to compromise on tariffs on some items such as agricultural products and automobiles.  Since TPP is deadlocked and protectionism is rising, Japan and the EU shall lead the negotiations towards successful outcomes and promote the free trade system to the world, the editorial points out.  For the entire piece, please visit the link below (Japanese only).
