GR Japan IPF House of Councillors Election Special on 17 July

With just days to go before Japan’s upcoming House of Councillors election on 20 July,  GR Japan will host a special edition of the International Policy Forum to explore what’s at stake for Prime Minister Ishiba, the ruling coalition, and Japan’s changing political dynamics.

Less than a year after the LDP-led coalition lost its House of Representatives majority, the country now faces another major electoral test. Prime Minister Ishiba has shown unexpected resilience, but a recent setback in the Tokyo Assembly election suggests that voter sentiment remains cautious. The outcome of the Upper House election will have a significant impact on the Prime Minister’s political future and the balance of power in a more fragmented opposition.
