In an interview with the Asahi Shimbun, SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son urges for full liberalization of the electricity market and insists that the unbundling of the power transmission and distribution is inevitable in Japan.
Since the March 11 disaster, Son has become a leading champion of renewable energy in Japan. Stating that the myth of nuclear power plants as “safe, secure and stable” has been shattered, he reiterated his anti-nuclear energy stance. He stressed the need for increased efforts by the government towards renewable sources of energy such as solar and wind, and advocated for an “Asia Super Grid” that would link electric power systems of countries in Asia.
