GR Japan will host a special International Policy Forum (IPF) seminar featuring three senior executives from GR Japan: Jakob Edberg, Tomohiko Kinoshita, and Hiromu Nakamura on 18 September. Each executive brings extensive experience in Japanese politics and will offer insights into the leadership race, provide an outlook for the post-Kishida era, and explain the LDP’s presidential election process.
Prime Minister Kishida announced on 14 August that he will not seek re-election as President of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). This declaration has set the stage for a highly anticipated leadership race, as the ongoing political funding scandal and the disruption of the LDP’s traditional factional structure have paved the way for a more open contest than usual, with nearly a dozen names emerging as potential contenders.
The LDP presidential election is scheduled for 27 September. After an unusually long campaign, Japan will have a new leader by the end of the month. Key questions arise: Who will lead the LDP and Japan into this new era? Who are the strongest contenders? What changes will new leadership bring, and what will the implications be for business?
