Environment
Japan has been a leader in environmental policymaking at the global level and traditionally has had a fairly good track record in implementing global standards and synchronizing its legislation with international treaties in this area. Japan has strict environmental policies in many areas and this has implications for virtually all industry sectors.
Despite Japan’s record, many challenges remain, while new ones emerge. We have supported corporate and non-governmental clients on a wide range of environmental issues, including recycling, energy efficiency, water pollution, the use and destruction of toxic substances, etc.
In particular, GR Japan works with a number of non-profit organizations, to institute and implement advocacy and public affairs campaigns on issues such as the trade in illegally logged timber, sustainable fishing and biodiversity. Our clients benefit from the support of expert staff, who have policymaking and law-drafting skills acquired at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, METI and in the National Diet.
